Giving thanks…It’s that time of year again where we as family and friends sit around the table giving and showing thanks to those who we care about. It’s a time to show our humility and gratitude for everything we have in our life. I was taught that Thanksgiving was not just about being thankful for what you have, but being thankful for being able to help someone else. On Thanksgiving my family usually spends the mornings at shelters feeding the homeless and families in need. Later in the afternoon we come together and give thanks for another Thanksgiving we are able to see. Through the course of our day we take turns asking each other, “What are you thankful for?” With that in mind, we also make it known that Thanksgiving should be everyday, not just one day out of a year.

Take time reflect and look back to recount all the blessings that have poured down over you and your family. We are often so busy with our lives and rarely take time to slow down to reflect…this Thanksgiving I am reflecting on what was, what is and what’s to come.

Many people miss the reason and meaning of Thanksgiving. As you stated LaTrina, it is not so much a time to be thankful for what you have; it is a time to be thankful and give to others. This is definitely the basis of the Thanksgiving season. It is truly “better to give than to receive.”

  2. Thank you LaTrina for sharing what your family’s Thanksgiving tradition! It is nice to know that there are families out there that volunteer their turkey time to assist those in need. I completely agree with you regarding everyday should be Thanksgiving day. Let’s always count our blessings every day that we are given, because who knows what tomorrow brings.
